So I've researched enough NAS storage to drive me crazy when I thought, why not ask the pros? I have a business with 5 desktops and would like to backup important company information. I keep reading reviews and getting scared. I do all my own IT work and I'm not a pro so I would like something easy to use. My priorities are to run RAID 1 (2 - 500GB HDD), spend less than $350, able to swap HDD myself when they fail and it would be nice to access it remotely. Of course I would like it to run fast, not run hot, be reliable, etc. I have no idea where to start...please help!!! Thanks in advance.

You'd probably want something that's easy to use and setup. Just about any NAS product that supports (or has) two drives can do RAID 1. In your case it's probably best to buy a NAS that already comes with the two drives. The HP Media Vault Pro MV5140 1 TB (2 drives) runs about $350. The Lacie 2Big Network 1TB can be had for about $300. I think either one of those two would do the job for you- they support RAID 1, are easy to use, already comes with the drives all setup, and are at your price range.

Don't forget to supplement your backup plan with offsite backup. Mozy offers 2 gigs for free or $5/month for unlimited space.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Since my post I've been reading about the Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo. Would you consider that as an option?

I don't think you can go wrong with that one either- Buffalo makes some nice NAS products.

Thanks again for your help. That is making my decision even harder. Assuming they were all the same price, which one would you pick for yourself?

I would probably go with the HP MV5140- here's a review of the single drive 500GB version, the MV2120:

and here's an in-depth review on the MV5150, the 1.5 TB version:
